Habib University is a global institution of higher education located in Karachi, Pakistan. It is an undergraduate liberal arts and sciences institution that welcomed its first class of students in Fall 2014. Its liberal arts and sciences framework offers its students the breadth and depth of knowledge in the humanities, social sciences and the natural sciences through a rigorous Core Curriculum, coupled with intensive knowledge in the disciplines, a host of technical skills and vital soft skills; qualities that are highly expected of graduates trained for the global workplace.
The first program of its kind in Pakistan, the Social Development and Policy (SDP) program at Habib University combines a rigorous classroom training in the social sciences and humanities with reflective field-based practice. Through a transdisciplinary curriculum that is rooted in the South Asian context and defined by a spirit of global universality, students gain valuable theoretical and practical expertise in development studies in a collaborative learning environment. It ties in with the overall vision of the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Habib University – to set a new international standard for interdisciplinary liberal arts education.
The program is inviting applications for multiple, open-rank positions from candidates with strong teaching and research credentials who will add to the thematic and methodological strengths of the program, and who can contribute to the teaching of our flagship University Liberal Core. Currently, the SDP program is actively seeking dynamic faculty with broad expertise in any of these three areas:
• Health: including but not limited to any of the following: Public Health, Service and Policy, Privatization, Medical/Health Care Histories, Health Industries, Epidemics and Infection Control, Population Studies, Institutional Systems;
• Environment: including but not limited to any of the following: Ecological Ethics, Anthropocene and the Environmental Crises, Conservation Management, Resource Governance, Regional Polity and Practices of Production/Distribution/Consumption, Sustainability, Green Technologies, Renewable Energy, Ecosystem, Forestry, Agriculture, Atmospheric Sciences, Oceanography etc.; and
• Legal Studies: including but not limited to any of the following: Systems of Law, Judicial Governance and Enforcement, Law-Making, Customary Law, International Law, Human Rights, Social Movements, Deviance and Social Control, Criminology, Punishment and Discipline, Security Studies.

Specialists with cross-cutting expertise in the fields of Public Policy, Geography, Women’s/Gender Studies, Development Practice, Political Science, Urban Studies, History, Sociology, Political Economy, Postcolonial Studies and South Asian Studies are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate can anticipate the course load not to exceed 3-2. Appointment is expected to begin August 1, 2016. Candidates in the final stages of their Ph.D. may also apply.
